Podium alternatives for small businesses: 6 options compared

By Marc Chaffee, founder of Birch Bloom · Published October 29, 2026 · About a 6-minute read

Short answer: if you want one big platform with phones, payments and an AI assistant built in, Podium and Birdeye are the two to compare. If you run a dental, vet, medical or optometry practice, look at Weave. If all you need is missed-call text-back and review requests set up for you at a published price, that’s what our Front Desk Bundle is. We’re Birch Bloom, so weigh that one accordingly.

How we checked: every price and feature below comes from each company’s own pricing or product pages, read on October 29, 2026. Where a company doesn’t publish a price, we say so rather than guess. Prices change, so confirm before you sign.

One-line verdicts

  1. Podium: the broadest of the six, with phones, payments, text marketing, website chat and an AI employee add-on. You won’t know the price until you talk to sales.
  2. Birdeye: strongest on reviews across many locations. Its pricing form starts at “1–3 locations” and goes up to 1,000 or more, which tells you who it’s built for.
  3. Weave: built for healthcare practices, with phones, missed-call texting, reviews and practice-specific features such as insurance verification for dentists.
  4. Birch Bloom Front Desk Bundle (ours): missed-call text-back, review requests and fast replies to new enquiries on one number, set up for you, with 1,500 texts a month included. It doesn’t include phones, payments or text marketing.
  5. NiceJob: a clear, published price and no contract. It’s focused on reviews and referrals; its AI tool for phone leads was marked “coming soon” when we checked.
  6. HighLevel: the cheapest way in if you’re happy to set it up yourself. Texts are billed on top, and it’s built mainly for agencies, so expect a learning curve.

Which one to use

Where we fit, and where we don’t

Choose something else if you want a new phone system, card payments, text marketing to your whole customer list, or one dashboard for many locations. We don’t do those.

Choose us if you want to keep your number, have missed callers get a text within seconds, ask happy customers for a review, and have a person in Arizona set it up and test it. Our prices are on the page: missed-call text-back alone is $300 setup and $49 a month with 500 texts, then 3 cents each, and the Front Desk Bundle is $500 setup and $149 a month. You can cancel any time.

Questions to ask any provider

  1. What’s the full monthly price, including text and phone-number charges?
  2. Is there a contract, and how long is it?
  3. Do I keep my phone number?
  4. Who handles the carrier registration needed to text from a business number?
  5. What happens to my reviews and contacts if I leave?
  6. Who do I call when something stops working?

Questions people ask us

How much does Podium cost?

Podium doesn’t publish its prices. Its pricing page says plans are designed around your business and asks you to talk to its sales team.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Podium?

For reviews only, NiceJob starts at $75 a month with no contract. For missed-call text-back and reviews together, our Front Desk Bundle is $500 setup and $149 a month, and HighLevel starts at $97 a month if you set it up yourself, with texts charged on top.

Do I have to change my phone number?

Not with us: you keep your number, and the text-back only steps in when a call goes unanswered. Other providers differ, so ask before you sign.

Why does texting from a business number take weeks to set up?

US carriers require a one-time registration in your business name before a business number can send texts. It usually takes one to three weeks, whichever provider you use.

Do you only work with businesses in Arizona?

We’re based in Peoria, Arizona, and work with local businesses across the state. Most of the setup is done remotely, so it doesn’t matter where you are.
